Attention All! I'm wondering if there is still interest in the club running a round of BJCP certification classes? I've been contacted by JP of Three Rivers Underground Brewers (TRUB) about the possibility of our two groups coming together in a joint effort to provide the training and resources necessary to pass the BJCP exam.
Right now, I am quite interested in attending the classes, but I can't coordinate this effort. Is there a TRASH member, preferably someone that is a BJCP certified judge but not required, that would like to come forward and head up our clubs portion of the organizing and teaching. I believe this would be a great resource and opportunity for all the homebrewer's of the Pittsburgh area. Please either contact me or make a post here if you would like to organize this project.
We will also need to get a idea of how many TRASH members are interested in attending classes. So if you just want to study and take the exam post your intentions on this post.
Hope we can make this happen.

I plan on the big move to pittsburgh around the beginning of july. So I should be there in time for your HB competition. But I won't be able to catch the May or June meetings. I'll have a few entries for your competition and I'd love to help judge.

If Jeff would organize it, I'd be willing to teach a few classes. I am in the process of grading BJCP exams right now, so I have a lot of insight into taking the test. I need to take the test again anyway to become a Master judge.
BTW, we can't even schedule an exam until September or October, and I'm sure those months will be filling up soon, so the sooner we make a decision on a test date, the better.

The class was discussed at the meeting. Not much was determined. Jeff Bearer has volunteered to lead up the TRASH end of the classes. It is my understanding that he has been in touch with the TRUB member who is organizing their end. No test date has yet to be secured. I think Jeff still needs a list of TRASH members interested in taking/participating in the classes. That being said, I'll let it be known that I would like to take this classes and the test. Anyone else that has interest could post it on here to let Jeff know. I believe the next step is to finalize the list of participants and then pick a test date. Does this make sense Jeff?

prospective new member and interested in the class
My name is Jake Ocque. I am moving to Pittsburgh from Buffalo, NY. I am interested in taking part of the class as well. Two years ago, up here in Buffalo, I took part in a class. When I took the exam, I scored in the Certified range and feel like I was robbed. So I'd like to raise my score up to national. I've saved all my materials and hope that I can help with the class as well.

As for the classes and test, I assume we'll hear more at or after next week's meeting.

Yes, Welcome Jake, and looking forward to meeting you at a meeting in the near future. As for the test date, I just received an email from one of the co-organizers who stated that he would like to have the exam be in January 2010. But as Keith said, more info will follow after this months meeting.
